It all started as a challenge at the Kenya Coast National Polytechnic formerly The Mombasa Technical Training Institute- MTTI when a sports commentator who had visited the institution challenged female journalism students to embrace sports reporting.
Ruth Toto Arege now famously referred to as ‘Toto Arege’ for her outstanding sports reporting and analysis took it up and started putting her journalism career into perspective.
She reported for the college magazine to become the sports editor for the school publication.
She was determined and focused to become top sports reporter, anchor and editor, a dream she is steadily realising.
The female talented sports journalists sharpened her career when she joined Mediamax Network Limited owned Pilipili FM as an intern.
“Some male journalists would play mockery on me since they dominate the field and I don’t deny the fact but I am determined to change the perception,” noted Ms Arege.
After her attachment, she landed at a sports channel TV Madgoat TV.

Madgoat TV is owned by a Dubai based Swedish investor Ricardo Badoer.
It is also the official channel for Wazito Football Club.
Wazito FC is owned by Mr. Badoer.
“At Madgoat TV, I host a sports show dubbed Rush hour together with Curtis Mohamed and Gregory Mulemi,” noted the now renowned TV sports presenter and analyst.
Ruth has encountered various obstacles in her journalistic journey but she has never been deterred.
At times male colleagues would challenge her sports knowledge just to mock her but the obstacles strengthened her capabilities.

Though she has social life Arege is challenged by the fact that it ius during weekends that she is extremely busy gathering content for her station.
“I clearly understand that for any lady, weekend is the best time for visiting the beauty salon, visiting friends and making merry, however my life is different during the weekend am busy in the field,” she noted.
She loves football and in most times she is indoors watching football whenever she takes an off duty.
The talented top sports personality has been hosted on various National televisions among them NTV and Switch TV to join other panelists in analyzing, criticizing and deliberating on the future of sports in and outside the country.
She is a Manchester United die-hard fan and Paris Saint-Germain- PSG in the France League-1.
Ms Arege though she loves the Kenya football and other disciplines, she is pained by the mismanaged, politics and bickering within Kenya sports sector.
“We have all the talents up to grassroots level but our sports has turned to be a political bickering field, can those mandated to shape up issues stop sleeping on the job,” she charged.
