A Lamu youth who was brutalized by police for stealing a duck has been taken back to the theatre after developing complications on his appendix.
The family of Yusuf Abuu, 19, believes the injuries were inflicted by police on December 30.
Abuu, who resides at Ndau in Lamu, was arrested on December 30th and was detained at the police station where he was physically tortured while being interrogated.
His co-accused did not sustain injuries.
Abuu was first operated at King Fahad County Hospital last Sunday after his appendix failed to work, he was put on tubes.
On Saturday, Abuu’s aunty Nafsa Yusuf said his condition worsened and he had to be readmitted.
“Police had no justification to beat him up like that,” she said.
Yusuf has urged human rights defenders to intervene and pile more pressure for justice to prevail.
Muslims for Human Rights-MUHURI said it is closely following up on the case.
“We will relentlessly help the victim get justice, said MUHURI Chairman Khelef Khalifa.”
Khalifa said such brutalities are the order of the day in Lamu.
The renowned Human rights defender said they are contacting Independent Policing Oversight Authority-IPOA over the matter.
