Attorney General Paul Kihara Kariuki has directed human rights defenders to furnish him with all reports of gross human rights violation in Lamu County so that they are pursued and amicably addressed.

Kihara said that his office is working towards justice for all and he will not relent in quest for justice for Lamu residents.

The AG said what he gathered at Lamu County in his weeklong tour was pain, suffering and state of despondency among locals in the County.

Addressing locals at Mpeketoni gardens in Lamu County over the weekend, the AG said Lamu residents have suffered enough of historical injustices.

“We will dedicate ourselves in solving these inhumanities, the pending issues that needs investigations will be fully pursued to the latter,” noted Mr. Kihara.

He asked Human rights organisation Haki Africa to furnish him with all the documented cases of human rights violation and other forms of injustices so that he can swing into action.

“I am your servant, a man of less words but pure actions, I want those reports in my office,” said the AG.

He said with the multi-agency approach on the inhumanity in Lamu County, Lamu residents will get justice.

He urged locals to bravely report to the human rights defenders all forms of human rights violation so that it is easy to track them.

“Kindly help us so that we solve the suffering you are going through, we have to unite for a course,” he urged the residents.

Meanwhile Human rights organisation Haki Africa is documenting reports of human rights violation in Lamu County in a bid to address them.

Haki Africa Executive director Hussein Khalid said the organisation has camped in Lamu investigating, documenting and presenting to relevant public institutions the findings for urgent actions.

Khalid said the recently launched Social Justice Centre is mandated to pursue, document and seek solution to pertinent issues affecting Lamu residents being land conflicts, harassments from security agents, vast historical injustices among many forms of inhumanities.

He said Haki Africa fact finding mission in Lamu has enabled the organisation gather information that will prompt actions from government institutions among them the DPP, DCI and the Attorney general.

“We will not relent but strive towards justice for all” noted the renowned human rights defender.
