The human rights lobby which is currently camping at Lamu has interrogated locals over gross human rights violation and documented all details.

According to MUHURI Chairperson Khelef Khalifa, the Kenya Defence force has terrorized locals in the ongoing fight against Al-Shabab in the County.

He said that some locals have been tortured by security agents accused of colluding with terror networks in the county, some left with permanent scars.

“Security agents should provide security to locals and not harassing them,” he noted.

On his part, the organizations Rapid response Officer Francis Auma said that fishermen interviewed during MUHURI’s fact finding mission revealed that fishermen operating at the Indian Ocean have suffered dire consequences in the hands of security agents.

Auma said that police brutal acts in the county must stop.

“The fisheries sector in Lamu has nosedived and the fishermen have nowhere to seek assistance,” noted Mr. Auma.
