Two police officers will next week appear before Malindi court for killing a 17 year old boy at Mariakani in Kilifi County.

Simeon Oyoo Ayodo and Amos Kiptoo Kipsang are accused of shooting dead Katana Kazungu in June last year at Mariakani.

The office of the Director of Public Prosecution in Malindi has confirmed the issuance of arrest orders.

Ayodo and Kipsang were trailing a truck when they aimlessly opened fire killing the innocent Ndatani Primary school class seven pupil.

Muslims for Human Rights- MUHURI which is handling the case pushed for a postmortem that police and some administrators had earlier blocked.

MUHURI said Kazungu had returned from a funeral when he was called by friends to help push a truck that was stuck following a heavy downpour.

The truck was transporting stones from a nearby quarry.

Independent Policing Oversight Authority launched investigation that took seven months. After the killing, Ayodo and Kipsang were suspended.

An autopsy done at Coast Level Five Hospital on July 3 last year revealed that Kazungu was shot at close range from the back.

IPOA, Independent Medico Legal Unit-IMLU and officers from Mariakani Police station witnessed the postmortem process.

Kaloleni MP Paul Katana said those involved should face the law.

MUHURI through its Chairperson Khelef Khalifa said that lives must be respected and police are not mandated to kill.

The family exuded hope that at last justice will prevail.
