Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe has issued a Stern warning to those flouting quarantine rules that they will face full wrath of the law.
The Health CS warned that some people put under quarantine are mingling freely with others, a situation that has posed major health threat among them.
Kagwe warned that such people will remain in quarantine for as long as until they abide by the provided quarantine rules.
“Until we are disciplined, this disease will kill us,” he said.
Kagwe revealed that Mandera county has recorded such incidences where some Kenyans under quarantine bribed officials to be released.
“This is a total shame, we will deal with both parties, those released and the government officials who facilitated their release without our node,” said Mr. Kagwe.
Kagwe also reported another incident where people pretending to have lost their loved one traveled from Nairobi to Homabay, in Homabay County with an empty coffin.
During his daily media briefing on Covid-19 in Nairobi on Saturday, Kagwe reported that the government had confirmed 16 more Coronavirus cases totaling the number of people affected by the virus to 262.
He also said 12 people have so far died of the disease since the first case was reported in March, 16.
A total of 60 have fully recovered from the disease
On Friday the government extended the 14 day quarantine period in five centres countrywide after it noted a breach of the quarantine rules.
He said the government was tightening the loopholes on quarantine processes.
He has cautioned Kenyans against ignoring the calls of abiding by the health and safety rules in fighting Covid-19 in the country.
