The Lamu health sector is imperfect and needs extreme revamp so that Lamu residents can access universal health care.

Lamu Senator Anwar Loitiptip said that the health sector in the County should be upgraded so that none of the residents suffer traveling long distance to seek proper medical services.

Speaking after meeting the Ministry of health Principal Secretary Mr. Peter Tum at Nairobi, Loitiptip said that Lamu East needed two new dispensaries in Kizingitini and Faza areas since locals have been facing it roughly searching for health services.

He also pushed for proper medical supplies and equipments at King Fahad Referral hospital which is the major referral hospital attending to hundreds of Lamu residents daily.

The young Lamu Senator said that construction of staff houses at Katsaka Kairu and Ishakani dispensaries was inevitable and appealed to Mr. Tum to assist in accomplishing such noble projects.

“For many years, Lamu County has experienced ailing medical sector with many medical professionals fleeing the county fearing for their safety that’s why we are now pushing for a revamp of the medical sector in our County,” noted the Senator.

Loitiptip also called for the expansion of Mpeketoni Sub-County hospital with fully medical supplies and equipments.

“For us to ensure that our people get quality healthcare services, we need to work very closely with the Ministry of health so that most of our proposals sail through,” he noted.

The Senator said that his work was to properly play the oversight role adding that health matters were very important and should be prioritized.

On his part, the Health Principal Secretary assured Mr. Loitiptip that the Ministry was working closely with Lamu leaders so that the health sector in the county can be improved.

Mr. Tum admitted that Lamu County has been for a while faced major challenges in the health sector but with the current efforts exerted by Mr. Loitiptip and the positive measures taken, the sector will soon be upgraded to enable locals access quality and universal healthcare services in all public health institutions in the County.
