The news of his passing shocked many especially the fans to the hugely popular cartoon series since it’s inception in 1999 as none would want to believe that the charming Stephen is no more.
Sources indicate that his death is attributed to ALS- a condition he had been diagnosed with in March 2017.

Nickelodeon issued a statement about his death. “He was a beloved friend and a long-time creative partner to everyone at Nickelodeon and our hearts go out to his entire family.

Steve imbued SpongeBob square pants with a unique sense of humor and innocence that has brought joy to generations of kids and families everywhere. His utterly original characters and the world of Bikini bottom will long stand as a reminder of the value of optimism, friendship and the limitless power of imagination”

Following the news of his death on Monday, fans began posting tributes on social media thanking him for bringing laughter into their lives through his creation.

Steve’s death comes weeks after the death of the legendary Marvel Comic Icon Stan Lee who was the writer and creator of the iconic superheroes like Spiderman, the fantastic four and the X-men characters. He died from cardiac arrest, respiratory and congestive heart failure at the age of 95.
