My attention was recently drawn to a post doing rounds that Pwani TV was getting back on air.
I was equally happy and interested to see how the unfolding will look like. Having the first Coast TV channel back on air is awesome isn’t it?
But what exactly led to the closure of Pwani TV after about four years of struggling in the highly competitive media industry.
The once Nyali based first ever Coast TV channel closed shop after financial crisis according to reports but the channel was scheduled to hit back the airwaves on 3rd August, 2019. Three weeks down the line and i am still searching for it whenever I switched on my Television set, was it a hoax?
Its place was taken by the second Coast TV channel Raia TV that is also relatively struggling to make a breakthrough.
It was once off air, is it heading to hurdles too…
Anyway, let both channels hold waters so that Coastal people can enjoy at least a channel of their own.
However, Pwani TV Start was quite impressing.
Let’s focus on some of the once hard working journalists and young, self made talented top news anchors who I always loved watching when articulating and adlibbing their state of the art Swahili language and accent while presenting the 8 pm Swahili news bulletin.
[Former Pwani TV News anchor Hajj Ramadhan].
He was the top Swahili news anchor. The talented hardworking journalists played the role of a News reporter, Editor, News anchor and Talk show ‘Uongozi’ host at the station. Hajj a dedicated journalist who poses a degree in Mass communication and journalism started as a news reporter at An Islamic based radio station Radio Rahma, he later moved to Radio Kaya and landed at Pwani TV.
He is an asset that any media house would hold onto dearly. Sorry to those who let go the talent. How he anchored news, one would just love watching and engaging him on air.
He is currently the Mombasa County government Sub-county administration office senior Communication officer.
[Former Pwani TV News Anchor. Khadija Mwinyi].
Khadija Mwinyi also used to anchor the Pwani TV news at 8 pm at times she would go alone but in most times alongside Hajj Ramadhan.
She is a dedicated journalist with lovely Swahili accent that will make you glued to the screen.
Ms Mwinyi worked at Radio Salaam before jumping off the wagon to Radio Rahma where she played the role of an editor for quite sometime before changing wings to TV anchoring.
At Pwani TV she did her best and together with Mr. Ramadhan Hajj, she would keep Pwani TV newsroom abreast.
She now works as Communication officer at Mombasa Senator Mohammed Faki’s office.
[Former Pwani TV News anchor Aisha Mwajumlah].
Ms Mwajumla too was a Pwani TV news anchor who graced our living rooms with Swahili news that I enjoyed most.
She also doubled up as a news reporter and with such experienced, talented Aisha any media house would hold, guard and value.
However at Pwani TV this never materialised.
What we know is that Aisha is a talented journalist and an actress who has sharpened her acting career and tactics.
She is currently acting in ‘Pete’ series season-2 that airs on Maisha magic East channel. To her surprise she did not believe the first positive strides that made her a top, talented, dedicated actress and unbowed journalist. A self-made actress indeed.
[Former Pwani TV News and features reporter and current Citizen TV health reporter Kadzo Gunga].
Most of us have watched her health reports on Citizen TV, it all started at Pwani TV.
Kadzo was a news and features reporter at Pwani TV. She dedicated herself into delivering result at the station.
She would later join Mombasa county government as a Communication officer at the education department.
She worked well with by then County Education Executive Member Tendai Lewa Mtana until the time both left the Department with Kadzo joining citizen TV and Mr. Tendai travelling abroad for further studies.
Kadzo is doing well as a health reporter on Citizen TV.
[Former Pwani TV sports News anchor Fredrick Onyango].
He was the top news and sports reporter at Pwani TV. He also anchored sports bulletin at the station.
The young journalist with vast knowledge in sports used to make sports lovers glued to their screens as he anchored sports news with the synergy, high fluency and a broad smile
It is said that he also worked at the Mombasa county government, at the second Coastb-based TV channel Raia TV. But what we can authoritatively report is that Mr.Onyango is upgrading his studies in one of the public universities, Mombasa campus.
He is a self-made public speaker, youth mentor and he is currently working and sharpening his God given talent ‘Master of Ceremonies’. He has been recently spotted doing extremely well emceeing public events, weddings and high profile celebrations.
The young talented journalist remains an asset to any media house especially in the sports news desk.
[Former Pwani TV News reporter Michael Mwandigha].
Mwandigha a Moi University alumni loved journalism from his childhood and would pursue his career after high school studies.
He has had his fair share of tribulations in the highly competitive media industry.
Mr. Mwandigha has been to Pwani FM, formerly Pilipili FM which was later relaunched as Mijikenda station to be named Msenangu FM, a Mediamax Limited owned Coast regional radio station, Pwani TV and later re-joined Pwani FM, a KBC sister station broadcasting at the Coast region.
Mwandigha had a TV personality and KBC channel one if scouting for young talents please look no further you got it right at your doorstep.
With all these talents Pwani TV lost if the reports doing rounds that it will soon hit the airwaves is true the channel management should search for these talented journalists,,sign them contracts, pay them well and you will reap from the highly competitive media industry.
Have a fruitful read…won’t you!
