There has been information circulating local and international media that Machakos University in Machakos County was offering Bachelors degree program in witchcraft.
The information circulated quickly on social media with Kenyans and other people across the world receiving the information with surprise.
Some even said Machakos University becomes the second higher learning institution to offer such course in Africa after another one in South Africa announced such program in 2020.
The witchcraft news in Machakos University circulated in mid 2020.
However, the institution has released a statement saying the news is fake and malicious.
Machakos University Director, corporate affairs, Public relations and Marketing Adam Shisia said the fake news trending on social media should be ignored since it does not originate from the institution.
“The trending information is false and malicious and should be disregarded, ” said Mr. Shisia.
He said the institution has been offering highly competitive courses among them information and technology, hospitality and mechanical courses.
“The information circulating on the social media about the institution offering degree in witchcraft is ill motivated and I urge the public and stakeholders to ignore and treat it as fake and mere rumour,” he added.
The information attracted mixed reactions with many Kenyans and foreigners mocking Kenya saying despite being a religious nation it hugely embraced super natural issues among them witchcraft.
