Tanzania bans new Diamond-Rayvanny ‘Mwanza’ song

The National Council in charge of arts well known as BASATA (Baraza la Sanaa Taifa) on Monday banned a new song ‘Mwanza’ a hit collabo that has attracted over 1.3 million views on you tube in less than a week.

Recently Tanzania government has been on high alert over the vulgar and explicit content generated by the country’s vast entertainment sector.

The song that according to Raymond Shaban Makyusa famously known as ‘Rayvanny’ and Naseeb Abdul well known as ‘Diamond Platnumz’ has been suspended and further media outlets in the country warned against giving it airplay.

According to BASATA the song promotes sex and the content is purely open vulgar and to an extent tarnishes the image of the country as well as diminishing the ethics of the young generation.

In a statement to Tanzania based media houses on Monday afternoon, the council warned against using the song, playing or distributing it as it was done mainly to promote sex and coated with sexist language.

However the proprietor of Wasafi Classic Baby- WCB recording label Diamond Platnumz has strongly defended the production saying the song is mainly to promote Tanzania as a tourist’s destination.

He says that the song was to show various tourist attraction sites and not at any point promoted sex.

“We come up with such ideas because we want to promote our country as a tourist destination in the world,” he said in a press briefing.

Some parts of the song as embedded are…‘Ananivuta ghetto nimpige bunduki’  which BASATA translates it as ‘She is taking me home so that we have sex’.

Another line Diamond and Rayvanny stress in ‘Mwanza’ songs is ‘Haya iweke iweke kwa chini’  Which the council again reiterates that it simply means ‘How people enjoy while in a sexual intercourse’

However Diamond argue that the chorus  ‘Nyege nyege…Kwetu Mwanza Nyegezi, describes the beautiful scenes of Nyegezi area in Mwanza in Tanzania and not the urge for sex as the council puts it.

The council is known for its stringent measures after it recently banned Wema Sepetu from acting after a leaked video that showed her having deep romance with a man in a hotel room.
