Renowned top radio Presenter has tasked parents to ensure they educate their children without demarcating on gender.
Radio Kaya breakfast show Presenter Beatrice Dama Kahindi said parents were doing disservice to their young girls by marrying them off at a very tender age.
Dama who goes by famous name ‘Tausi wa Radio kaya’ while taking the Coast region by storm in the morning Mijikenda show ‘Voroni enehu’ (Good morning brothers and sisters) expressed her disappointment with some parents especially in Kwale and Kilifi Counties who ignore girls and opt for the boy child.
The vocal vernacular radio host was last year recognised as the Coast peace ambassador by the Mijikenda Council of Elders and was handed over the symbolic trophy by Mau Mau Association National chairperson Gitu wa Kahengeri at Magarini in Kilifi County.
“I was almost being married off when I was in class six but I resisted, the same people who planned my early wedding are now depending on me,” said Dama as her tears roll down her cheeks in nostalgic.
She was addressing young girls from primary schools drawn from Kwale County over the weekend during ‘Girl power fun day’ which was organised by a Kwale based non governmental organisation ‘Samba sports youth agenda’ that mentors youth through sports.

According to Beatrice, girls should be accorded the same attention and place in the society as their male counterparts.
“I am engaging you because I went through a lot that I don’t want you to experience, you are the game changer in the fight against these discriminatory and useless cultural practices, embrace education and create strong base of your own future,” she told the young girls.
The peace ambassador who was in full Mijikenda attire among them ‘Hando’ (a skirt used to be put on by Giryama women) said the mentorship programs and the culture gospel will be preached in the whole of Coast region with Mijikenda dominated counties of Kwale and Kilifi being prioritised.
Dama was accompanied by Radio kaya ‘Mirindimo ya Mwambao’ show Presenter Fatuma Mwangala a.k.a Toto Bomba la kaya, Kaya Flavas program host Mgeni Shaban a.k.a Anti-virus, Radio kaya Bango program and late night show host Bahati Ngazi and Radio Kaya Senior News and features reporter Mariam gao.
They all urged parents to embrace education to both children.
