At least 22 passengers were on Saturday injured after they were involved in a road accident along the Mombasa- Nairobi highway.
Only one passenger left the accident scene without any injuries according to police.
The mini-bus was heading to Kaloleni, in Kilifi County from Mombasa before it hit a trailer that was wrongly parked at Bonje area in between Miritini area and Mazeras, along the highway.
According to Jomvu OCPD Peter Maluki, all the 22 passengers were rushed to Portreitz Sub-county hospital in Changamwe where they were treated and discharged.
“The driver of the trailer vanished after the accident and we are pursuing him,” said Mr. Maluki.
Most of the passengers had sustained leg, jaw, face and chest injuries among other multiple injuries in their bodies
“They were all treated and discharged and both the vehicles were also towed to the Jomvu police station,” added the police boss.
The road was cleared after the mid-morning Saturday accident.
He warned motorists against reckless driving, adding that Bonje area had been listed as one of the blackspots along the Mombasa-Nairobi highway.
Police have launched investigations to unleash the cause of the accident.
