3 children die in separate incidents in Mombasa

Three children died on Sunday in separate incidents in Kwa bulo area in Kisauni and at Bangladesh slums in Jomvu constituency.

Three more sustained serious injuries during the incidents and are recuperating at the Coast general referral hospital.

In the first occurrence three children were playing on top of sewer chamber when a slab cover broke and the three fell into the chamber.

Local’s efforts managed to save only one child aged 7 while the other two died.

One of the boys who was rescued is receiving urgent treatment at the Coast general referral hospital while the two bodies are lying at the Coast hospital’s morgue.

Nyali police Boss Daniel Masaba said the three boys aged 7, 10 and 12 years were playing alone at home while their parents were away at work.

He further cautioned parents to be extremely vigilant especially during this time when children are at home after an extended holiday due to Coronavirus pandemic.


Meanwhile, one child died while two others were injured after they were electrocuted.

The children were playing when they touched hanging live electric cables.

One of them succumbed to injuries while the other two are still recuperating.

Jomvu OCPD  James Mutua confirmed the incident.

Kenya power officials visited the area disconnecting power to avert more damages and deaths.

The incident comes barely 24 hours after the death of a 7 year old boy who was electrocuted after stepping on live electric cabled illegally underground connected.

Some of the Bangladesh slum dwellers have been illegally connecting themselves power.
