Three people have been confirmed dead while three others seriously injured during a Thursday afternoon bus attack in Lamu.
The ‘Mombasa Raha’ company owned bus was heading to Mombasa from lamu Thursday morning.
The driver was flagged of but he quickly realised that they were not KDF soldiers but miliat men and he drove off at high speed prompting the gun men to spray the passenger bus with bullets.
Lamu County Commissioner Irungu Macharia said the bus was destroyed by gunshots and the gunmen later vanished into the nearby bush.
He said Nyongoro area where the incident occurred has become hideout for Al-shabab militia adding the Kenya Defense forces (KDF) officers are combing the forest to wipe out the militia men.
A total of 44 passengers were on board the bus that was attacked near Gamba police station at Nyongoro area.

Macharia said security agents will never relent until all the militia men hiding in the forest are smoked out.
He however insisted that all passenger vehicles heading to Lamu from Mombasa must have police escort.
“We have been repeating that all motorists especially those ferring passengers from Mombasa to Lamu must be accompanied by security agents,” said Mr. Macharia.
He said security operations have been enhanced in the area.
