Four people lost their lives early Saturday morning after they were involved in different road accidents within the Coast region.
The first one happened at Voi along the Mombasa- Nairobi highway where two lories were involved in a head-on collision.
Voi Sub county Police commandant Bernastein Shalli said one of the lories heading to Mombasa from Nairobi tried to overtake another vehicle and hit an oncoming lorry from Mombasa.
“Three people died on the spot while the survivor was rushed to the Moi referral hospital in Voi in critical condition,” said Mr. Shalli.
He said the vehicle was being driven at a very high speed during the accident.
“Though we are still conducting investigations, preliminary findings have indicated that the driver heading to Mombasa from Nairobi was at high speed,” he added.
The bodies of the deceased have been taken to the Moi referral hospital morgue in Voi, Taita Taveta County.
Meanwhile, a two year old boy died on the spot after the matatu they were traveling in overturned at Hurara area along the Garsen-Malindi highway.
The matatu was heading to Malindi from Garsen on Saturday morning.
Several other passengers were injured during the accident and were rushed to the Garsen hospital for urgent medical attention.
