5 injured, an Italian abducted in Kilifi night attack

Police at the Coast are pursuing a group of attackers who injured five children and abducted an NGO worker.

Silvia Romana, 23 was abducted by gunmen of Somali origin after they attacked children’s home at Chakama area in Makongeni, Kilifi County last night.

The gunmen shoot indiscriminately injuring young men including a 10m year old beneficiary of the Africa Milele Onlus children’s home at Chakama, about 80 kilo meters from Malindi town.

They raided the children’s’ home shoot at them and later took away Silvia.

Coast Regional police commandant Noah Mwivanda said that police are currently exploring all means to net the attackers.

He said that the motive of the attack was not yet unearthed but preliminary reports from the victims receiving urgent treatment at Malindi hospital say that they slapped and terrorized the lady before whisking her away.

“Police are using helicopters and other machinery to ensure they net the attackers,” said Mwivanda.

He however said that the attack should not be singled out as an Al-shabaab attack until police establishes those behind it.

The incident also left a woman in critical condition after she was shot on the chest.

Among those who are receiving urgent medical attention are Samini Garama Dadu, 23, Ibrahim Said 16, Elias Mwaringa, 12 Mohammed Kalume Konde 10 and Mangi Katana Jeffa 20.
