Human rights defenders are demanding for a complete overhaul of the security department in Kisauni and Nyali Sub counties.
The activists have further backed Coast regional Commissioner John Elungata’s remarks on rogue police officers who collude with criminals to terrorise locals.
Addressing locals at Freere town in Nyali recently, Elungata admitted that he has received complaints against security agents in Kisauni and Nyali
He said all officers directly or indirectly involved in criminal activities in the two areas will be punished.
However, human rights defenders are demanding an immediate overhaul of the entire security department in the two areas.
Haki Africa Rapid response Officer Mathias Hezron Shipetta said police have failed in containing insecurity in the Northern part of the county.
He revealed that locals have been subjected to a sad state of affairs, maimed, injured and robbed of their valuables and killed by armed gangs.

“At times we ask ourselves what are the police doing?” posed Mr. Shipetta.
He appealed to police to tame criminals who have for years sent locals in Nyali and Kisauni into panic.
“Locals and investors are fleeing Kisauni, houses are being vacated every day, this should not be the case?” he added.
The insurgency of illegal outfits among them Wakali Kwanza, Wakali wao and the recent 86 Battalion the injured at least 10 people in Kongowea barely a week ago has resulted into deaths while others left with permanent injuries and disabilities.
While addressing journalists recently, Mombasa County Police Commander Augustine Nthumbi cautioned locals and especially parents in Kisauni to brace themselves for hard times ahead.
“We will use excessive force if need be, we will smoke them out from where you as parents are hiding them,” he authoritatively noted.
