Construction of the Garsen-Witu-Lamu road was halted on Saturday night after Al-Shabab militants invaded the construction site at Milihoi area burning two lories on the site.
They also burnt an excavator used to dig deeper on the ground during construction works.
The incident happened Saturday night where those at the construction site scampered for safety halting all the construction activities.
The two destroyed vehicles belonging to Bamburi Cement Company were ferrying cement to the construction site.
Lamu County Commissioner Irungu Macharia confirmed the incident saying the militiamen vanished into the bush after security forces arrived at the construction site.
He said the gunmen targeted the construction site and the KDF military camp at Milihoi.
He disclosed that more security officers have been deployed in the area to ensure the construction works of the Garsen-Witu-Lamu road is implemented without any fear of attacks.
Recently the Garsen-Witu-Lamu road witnessed a series of Al-Shabab attacks, a trend that has threatened transport of passengers and goods to Lamu County.
It has also negatively impacted the tourism sector in the County.
