Reachout Centre Trust Executive Director Taib Abdulrahman has fully backed the efforts by Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i in taming drug menace at the region.
Taib said the Interior CS is a tireless leader and will restore the faith in the fight against drug trafficking in the region.
Drugs, security interlinked
Speaking in Mombasa on Sunday, Taib admitted that drug use and insecurity are more interlinked and if the government swing into action, crime rate will go down.
According to Taib, the Coast region and specifically Mombasa is badly affected by drug use and trafficking and the government needs to employ ways of curbing the menace.
“This issue has drastically affected youthful generation in the region unless the government acts, the young generation is in peril,” added Mr. Taib.
Rights groups support
His remarks were backed up Haki Africa Executive Director Hussein Khalid who assured Matiang’i of full support in protecting the young generation.

Khalid said the community has a responsibility too in embracing community policing and ensure it lives in safe and peaceful environment.
“The Interior CS is on the right track, we will support him. What we want is positive progress in the fight against drug trafficking in the region,” noted Mr. Khalid.
He reiterated that the gap between police and the community has resulted into insecurity especially in Mombasa and such fresh approach can be an amicable solution.
Matiang’i’s move has also received support from Mombasa political leaders.
