An anti-drug lobby, Reachout Centre Trust will engage the youth in counseling programs so that they pass anti-drug message to the peers in a bid to dissuade them from drug use.
Reachout Centre Trust Executive director Taib Abdulrahman said that youth at the Coast and especially in Mombasa needs to be equipped on how they can use counseling techniques in helping out their peers who area already affected by menace.
Speaking in Mombasa on Saturday, Taib said when the peers engage each other in matters surrounding drug use and the negative impact of drug addiction to the society, it will impact positive change in the fight against drug use within the Coastal region.
He said that youth are more comfortable when engaged by their age mates, the reason why the organisation is focusing more on youth to youth anti- drug engagement programs.
“As a Coast based an anti-drug lobby, we should employ all tactics in dissuading our youth from the menace, we need support from various stakeholders on this initiative,” noted Mr. Taib.
He said that the program has been already rolled out in most affected areas including Likoni and Kisauni Sub-counties.
“We should all be worried when we see a 15 year old boy doing drugs, which is a clear signal we are losing our precious young generation,” he added.
He appealed to the Mombasa County government, and other stakeholders to unite in making the initiative a success.
He further appealed to parents to take their responsibilities seriously in a bid to protect the young generation from the harmful effects of drug use.
