Barely four days after reappointing four Executive members to his cabinet, Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho is facing strong criticism from a section of County Assembly members.
Freere town Ward representative Charles Kitula opposed the appointment of Taufiq Balala to head the Water and infrastructure department.
In his previous leadership in the transport and infrastructure department, Balala had commotion with the County assembly members after he snubbed most of the summons.
According to Kitula, Balala is incompetent and unfit to hold public office.
“I have worked closely with Governor Joho but on this particular choice of Balala I strongly differ,” noted Mr. Kitula.
The youngest Mombasa County Assembly Member revealed that during his first tenure in office, Balala could not account for the amount of money used in various county projects despite his department receiving large sums of money.

“I am only playing my role as an MCA, I am not representing my fellow leaders in the Assembly but locals at grassroots level,” noted Kitula.
Kitula is the only youthful Mombasa MCA who has dared the County Chief over his choice of the cabinet.
Others who were lucky to be retained in the county cabinet are Hazel Koitaba who is in charge of health docket, Mariam Mabruk, in charge of Finance and Environment county Executive Member Godfrey Nyongesa Nato.
Joho is expected to complete naming of his cabinet before the end of January.
Various county departments have been manned by Chief Officers who some of their contracts are also said to be expiring at the end of January, 2020.
