Taita Taveta County Assembly is in mourning once again after another Member succumbed.
Orange Democratic Party (ODM) Nominated Member Joyce Mwangoji died while she was being rushed to St. Josephs Ikanga Hospital around 7:30 am Sunday morning.
According to the family, Mwangoji succumbed after a short illness.
Taita Taveta County Governor Granton Samboja mourned Mwangoji terming her as a dedicated leader beyond the county.
“We have lost a selfless icon that tirelessly worked for Taita Taveta community and beyond,” said Mr. Samboja.
Until her death Mwangoji was a board member of the Coalition on Violence Against Women (COWAV).
She also for a long time served as the Maendeleo ya Wanawake Taita Taveta County Chairperson.
The late Mwangoji also served in the Tana and Athi Rivers Development Authority (TARDA).
She was the Deputy Majority Chief Whip of the County Assembly.
The renowned human rights activists according to Samboja has left behind a legacy and dedication that the County Assembly members should emulate.
Ms Mwangoji’s death comes barely a year after the only elected woman in the County Assembly Beatrice Mwabili succumbed to cancer.
Mwabili was the Wundanyi/Mbale Ward MCA.
She died in March, 2020.
The Taita Taveta County Assembly said in a statement that burial preparations will be communicated in due course.
