Bomet Governor succumbs to cancer

Bomet governor Dr. Joyce Laboso has succumbed to cancer.

Laboso has been in and out of the country seeking specialised treatment.

In May 29th, Laboso travelled to Britain for specialised treatment and she was admitted at the Royal Madded hospital for a month.

During her stay at the hospital, ODM leader Raila Odinga, Chief justice David Maraga, former Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto, Kenyan Ambassador Manoah Esipisu visited her.

She was later transferred to India and she was back into the country two weeks ago.

Little known illness

Laboso has been receiving specialised treatment at the Nairobi hospital until Monday morning when she succumbed.

On July 14th, her Deputy Hillary Barchok appealed to Bomet county residents to pray for their governor as well respect her privacy.

Political journey

Dr. Laboso was forced to drop her career as a lecturer at the Egerton university in 2008 when her sister Lorna Laboso who was then Sotik MP and Assistant minister died in plane crash together with Cabinet minister Kipkalya Kones .

In June 10th, 2008 Laboso clinched Sotik Parliamentary seat and later became the Deputy speaker of the National assembly.

In 2017 she floored Isaack Ruto to become the second Governor of Bomet county, a post she properly held executing her duties tirelessly.

Female governors

Laboso was in the team of three dedicated, fearless women who became the first three to be elected as governors countrywide.

The team included Kirinyaga Governor Ann Waiguru and her Kituo Counterpart Charity Ngilu.

Laboso has died at the age of 58.

On July first, Safaricom CEO Bob Collymore died of cancer, four weeks later Kibra MP also succumbed to colorectal cancer on July 26th.
