LAPSSET project to economically open up Africa

The Lamu Port and Lamu-Southern Sudan-Ethiopia Transport -LAPSSET project will economically open up Africa, the regions LAPSSET Manager Salim Bunu has said.

Mr. Bunu said the project that has seen its three baths already complete with the container terminals for the first bath also completed said the construction of the two other container terminals for bath two  and three is also underway.

Bunu, on an inspection tour at the Lamu Port said the mega project undertaken by the National government is critical in opening up Lamu County, the coast region the country and Africa region at large.

He said despite various challenges and the Covid-19 pandemic that requires maximum safety and health observance among the workers and constructors, the project is progressing very well.

“With both road and rail transport from the Lamu port through Ethiopia and Southern Sudan, we are guaranteed of major boost economically,” said Mr. Bunu.

Crude oil

He revealed that the facility will enhance transportation of crude oil from Turkana to outside the country thus putting the country in the oil transportation curve globally.

“This will improve our economy index and will earn the country revenue. So this project is in all angles unique and will positively economically impact the region,” He noted.

Mr. Bunu said on completion of all the construction works, more employment opportunities will be realised.

The LAPSSET regional Manager also said locals will engage in both small and major investments that will be as a result of the activities at the Lamu port.

LAPSSET project is one of the government’s vision 2030 mega projects.
