SBM Bank COO ranked top Financial Innovator in East Africa

SBM Bank Kenya Chief Operating Officer, Amrit Gayan has been named the best Financial Innovator of the Year in the region at the second Finnovex East Africa hybrid summit.

The summit, coupled with the awards ceremony brought together various stakeholders to discuss the financial services innovations, the role of fintech and telecoms and the importance of harnessing Fintech’s leap in fueling financial inclusion and excellence within the region.

Mr Gayan has been recognised for his effort in implementing innovative strategies that have catapulted the Bank into a digitally focused financial institution.

“I’m gratified when my efforts towards transforming SBM Bank are acknowledged by industry experts and captains in the region. At SBM Bank, we remain deliberate in continuously enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of our services and products to our customers,” Said SBM Bank Kenya Chief Operating Officer (COO) Amrit Gayan

He said the bank is committed to offering innovative and unmatched cashless, payments and business solutions for a smarter tomorrow.

He noted that over 90% of the bank’s transactions are digital and are a direct reflection of response to providing a digital-first experience to our customers. This is a much-valued recognition, and I am fulfilled to have created such an impact within the bank.”

Mr Gayan revealed that through his efforts, SBM Bank Kenya has adapted and transformed to fit the digitally savvy customer base. He noted that the Bank is constantly improving and implementing reliable systems that help reach geographically distant and diversified markets as well as control risks attracted by the innovations.

SBM Bank Chief Executive Officer Moezz Mir said SBM is elated by Gayan’s win and for scooping the Finnovator of the Year award, adding that his win is a true testament to the Bank’s continuous effort in providing innovative banking solutions and relentlessly seeking to realise transformative and digitisation strategies.

Mir disclosed that SBM Bank is cementing its position as a Digital Bank in Kenya and across the region by continuous digitalisation and streamlining of complex banking operations, creating innovative banking solutions, and providing unmatched products and services.

“We are prudent to the business environment actors and the evolving financial sector ecosystem. We intend to roll out more digital transformation products and features such as bill payments, virtual cards, QR codes, account opening for individual customers and fleet card management for corporate customers,” said Mr Mir.
