Lamu County Commissioner Irungu Macharia has warned all those who will flout the safety and health regulations on Covid-19 to cater for their own expenses when thrown into quarantine centers in the county.
Macharia said some people are being ignorant and have been conducting their businesses as usual.
Addressing journalists in Lamu on Thursday, Mr. Macharia said the county administration has adequate places to put those flouting the rules under quarantine.
“For those examined and found to be positive or their relatives at risk of contracting Covid-19 will be taken care of, however for those deliberately ignoring the rules will cater for their own expenses,” he said.
According to Macharia, the government will not tolerate such characters.
“If you go against government orders you will be treated as a form one reporting to high school and you will carry you own bedding, food and all the humanitarian and personal effects,” revealed Macharia.
He expressed fears over high levels of ignorance among locals.
“Some people are breaking the fast together, sitting and chatting together like nothing is happening around them, it will be business unusual,” Macharia said.
Macharia’s sentiments come barely two weeks after Tana river Governor major retired Dhadho Godhana issued same orders warning all who will flout curfew orders that they will be arrested and thrown into forced quarantine.
