The case of a grandfather accused of sexually abusing his 13 year old granddaughter at Changamwe in Mombasa County will be mentioned on Friday 16th after it failed to take off.
The matter was set for hearing today but was postponed because police and doctors report were not available in the case file.
The accused grandfather Athman Hamisi Juma was arraigned before Mombasa Senior Magistrate Rita Amwayi at the Mombasa County Law courts.
According to the charge sheet Athman is accused of defiling and sodomising his granddaughter who is 13 years old on 6th January in Changamwe Constituency.
The prosecutor Nina Opiyo appealed to the court to be granted three more days to hold the suspect for the prosecution to complete investigations.
The granddaughter had sat for last year’s KCPE and is expected to join Form One during the ongoing intake.
Upon his arrest the accused person was held at Changamwe police station.
The accused, the minor and relatives wrote police statements and victim was taken to government hospital for a medical examination.
The granddaughter is an orphan who is currently being brought up by her relatives.
Mombasa Woman politician and girl child rights activist ZAmzam Mohammed has condemned the incident urging the judiciary to speed up the case so that the minor can get justice.
Zamzam had earlier opposed the minors relatives move to secretly solve the case in the village ‘Kangaroo court’ saying it was denying the traumatised young girl justice.
The Woman leader vowed to make sure the minor gets justice she deserves and condemned those who were against the prosecution of the suspect by trying to cover it up.
