Changamwe woman nabbed with expired cooking oil


Changamwe police officers are detaining a woman who was nabbed with expired cooking oil.

The woman Deborah Taabu was netted in one of the godowns in the area repackaging over 53, 300 litres of expired cooking oil.

Changamwe police Boss Ali Ndiema said Tabu is being detained at Changamwe police station.

“She is being interrogated to establish her network,” said Ndiema.

Mr. Ndiema said police suspects Taabu in a network where they deal with counterfeit products.

“We are pursuing the possibility of this network being fully involved in counterfeit products,” said Ndiema.

The jerricans where the expired cooking oil were not branded.

He said police have been inspecting various godowns in Changamwe that may have been facilitating illegal trade in the whole of Mombasa County and its environs.

He has appealed to locals to be very careful whenever they purchase food stuff warning that some unscrupulous business people may be using the Coronavirus period to lure locals into cheaper but dangerous food products.

Taabu will be arraigned in court after completion of the ongoing investigation.
