Mombasa county Children’s department has closed down ‘Hope for hope’ children’s home in Likoni.

This is after mysterious a death of a child in the facility.

The children’s home is said to be in dilapidated state and cannot continue housing the children.

Mombasa county Children’s department Director Philip Nzenge said the facility has been shut down and parents ordered to pick their children immediately.

The department launched its investigation after complaints from locals in the area over the facility.

According to Mr. Nzenge the facility is neither a children’s nor elderly home since children are living together with people above 25 years.

“According to our investigation, the facility houses between 5 and 25 years old people so is that a children’s home?” posed Mr. Nzenge.

He said most of those living in the facility are not orphans and they have their parents and guardians at home.

This facility is not an orphanage and we are yet to establish why these people were being hosted in that personal house,” noted Mr. Nzenge.

He said all children’s home in the county will undergo thorough inspection since some may be engaging in unlawful deeds with the minors.

Parents and guardians have been picking their children from the facility in question.

Nzenge has warned parents and guardians against handing over their responsibility to children’s home owners in the county.

The owner is being interrogated by the children’s department.
