Mombasa law court has granted investigators three more days to detain Kilifi Deputy Governor Gedion Saburi.
Saburi will be detained at the Mombasa port police until Thursday, 9 when he will be presented before court.
Mombasa resident magistrate Rita Amwayi gave the orders after the prosecution appealed to the court to grant them 14 more days to detain Saburi at Manyani GK prisons in Taita Taveta County.
The prosecution said Saburi if released on bond or cash bail may fault self quarantine rule.
The prosecution also says that following his objection to self-quarantine in the first place, Saburi may be attacked by Kilifi residents who have expressed a lot of anger on the governor.
Further the investigators have appealed to the count to detain Saburi for two more weeks so that he complete his 14 days self-quarantine as ordered by doctors at the Coast general hospital where he was isolated and treated for Covid-19.
They further argued that the Kilifi DG may not attend court sessions whenever needed after being release on bail or bond.
However Saburi’s defense team told the court that the Kilifi politician is very remorseful and has already asked Kilifi residents to forgive him.
The team objected the 14 days detention, adding that Saburi will abide by the doctor’s orders that he goes into self-quarantine.
Further the defense team criticized the prosecution that alleged Saburi may skip court session noting that government banned all international flight into and out of the country.
