Parents should create adequate time with their children so as to impart the right information about drugs and substance abuse.
They should also take time and listen to their children in a bid to understand their thinking and decision making levels.
Anti-Drug lobby Reachout Centre Trust Executive director Taib Abdulrahman said that youth were vulnerable to drug and substance abuse and HIV and parents should take full responsibility.
While addressing locals at Kuze are in Old town, Mombasa, the anti-drug Czar said that such dialogues between parents and children will deter them from indulging into drugs.
Taib blamed parents for hiding their children despite knowing that they are immersed into drugs or crime.
He urged parents to stop breeding dangerous generation but instead help them become resourceful people in the society.
“If you don’t guide your children to the right path you will suffer the repercussions,” he warned.
Taib appealed to security agents and other stakeholders to closely work with the anti-drug organisation towards dissuading youth from drugs and substance abuse.
He said drug use, has been for many years a catalyst of crime in Old town area.
Taib also singled out irresponsible sexual behaviors among the youth in Mombasa as a major driving factor for HIV prevalence.
He blamed poor parenting as the major contributing factor of emergence of juvenile criminal gangs in Kuze and the entire Old town area.
He however urged youth to fully take control of their lives and deter from drugs and substance abuse and crime as well.
