Parents are to blame for drug addiction among their children.
Poor parenting and ‘ever busy’ parents have led to the young generation immersed into drug addiction following ‘less caring’ parents.
While addressing locals at Kuze area in Old town, Mombasa, National Authority Against Drug and Alcohol Abuse-NACADA National director Farida Rashid said that parents have completely failed in taking their responsibilities in their own families.
She said that some parents have accorded their children too much freedom at tender age that has resulted into uninformed choices among youths.
Ms. Rashid urged parents to guide their children to the right path and always closely monitor them.
“Am totally disappointed when see parents chewing Miraa and Muguka right in front of their children, what do you expect from them?” noted the NACADA Coast regional director.
She asked parents to closely with the public anti-drug Authority in a bid to quell drug and substance abuse among the coastal youths.
She said NACADA will enhance awareness forums in the Coast Region in a bid to impart the right information about drugs to the community and mostly targeting the youth.
She appealed for unity among stakeholders in the fight against drug and substance abuse in the region.
Ms. Rashid also appealed to anti-drug organisations among them Reachout Centre Trust, Teens watch in Ukunda, Kwale County, Omari Project in Malindi and the Kenya Red Cross Society which conducts drug rehabilitation programs in the region to closely work with NACADA in the anti-drug campaign.
