A family of four perished in a Sunday grisly road accident in Tsavo area along the Mombasa-Nairobi highway.
The over-speeding Prestige matatu owned by Kinatwa Sacco was heading to Nairobi from Mombasa before it was involved in a head-on collision at Kanga area about 30 kilometres from Mtito Andei town.
“We believe that the woman who perished in the tragic accident was the mother of the three children aged around 1, 3 and 4 years respectively, who also died in the accident,” said Makindu OCPD George Kasimiri.
He further said that the other five passengers in critical condition are receiving urgent medical attention at the Makindu Sub County hospital in Makueni county.
“The matatu driver who was heading to Nairobi from mombasa tried to overtake at a dangerous zone before hitting an oncoming trailer that was heading to Mombasa,” Kasimiri further revealed.
The police boss is accusing the matatu driver who is also deceased for reckless driving, urging drivers plying the Mombasa-Nairobi highway to carefully observe all traffic rules and avoid over-speeding.
Kasimiri says recently the Mombasa-Nairobi highway especially between Voi and Emali areas have witnessed death caused by reckless driving among drivers.
He singled out matatu drivers as the most uncouth drivers who ignore traffic rules and always drive at a high speed.
None of the lorry occupants were injured in the accident.
The deceased have been taken to the Makindu Sub County hospital’s morgue.
