A family in Likoni, Mombasa County whose 12 year old daughter was allegedly defiled by a bishop is appealing for justice to prevail.
The aggrieved family says their grade six daughter in Future of Taru primary school, Kinango Sub county was sexually abused by a bishop of Apostolic Congregation in Spirit Ministry in Taru Township along the Mombasa-Nairobi highway.
They said the bishop acts as the Director and guardian in the institution owned by the church with claims that five other school girls were sexually molested by the man of God.
The father of the girl Stephen Njenga and her mother Rachel Njeri say their efforts to bring the bishop Paul Mwangi to justice was being frustrated by Lamu West MP who is a friend of the church’s top brass.
Speaking to journalists at Mariakani, the family is appealing to Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i, Chief Justice David Maraga and Director of CID George Kinoti to intervene in the issue for the law to take its course.
The girl’s mother said when her daughter complained of sexual molestation during the August school holidays they had taken her to a different school in Mombasa for the third term.
She said the other girls who were sexually molested by the clergyman were also taken to deferent schools in Lamu County by the bishop to hide evidence.
They said the bishop was initially arrested by the police in Mariakani Township and taken to court but he was released in mysterious circumstances and that their case file in Mariakani law courts has gone missing.
The distraught family was accompanied by a church elder Mwangi Maina who said the bishop in question has approached him with the aim of eliminating his accusers.
“He wanted me to help him secure the services of a hitmen to silence his accusers” said Maina who said he is ready to testify.
Caleb Ngwena a human rights activist has called for the speedy arrest and arraignment in court of the bishop.
He said it was morally wrong and height of impunity to leave the bishop to roam freely in the society and continue to sexually molest young girls under his care.
Efforts to talk to the bishop bore no fruit.
