Four passengers are nursing serious injuries at Witu Sub county Hospital in Lamu after they were involved in a road accident.
The Tawakal Company owned bus veered off the road and overturned at Witu area while heading to Lamu from Mombasa.
According to Lamu Police Commandant Muchangi Kioi, the accident was as a result of heavy down pour on Tuesday afternoon that made the road impassible.
He said that the road under construction was muddy and the driver could not manage the bus thus why it veered off the road and overturned.
“We did not count any fatalities during the Tuesday afternoon accident, the injured are received urgent treatment at Witu Sub-county hospital,” he said.
He further cautioned motorists plying the Malindi- Lamu highway to be extra careful when approaching Abagada area near Witu where the road has become slippery following the ongoing downpour.
He said other passengers who sustained minor injuries were assisted into another bus and moved on with their journey to Mokowe.
Muchangi however said that road accidents were minimal along the Mombasa-Lamu highway especially along Witu area following fully enforcement of traffic laws.
He urged motorists to fully adhere to traffic laws or they risk cancellation of their driving licenses.
Like other parts of the Country, traffic police operating along the Malindi-Lamu road have enhanced their inspection against public transport vehicles flouting traffic rules.
