A 20 ft fully furnished container located at Half way house rehabilitation center at Likoni in Mombasa County will provide basic required health services to hundred of drug users.
The new fully equipped clinic installed at the Reachout Centre Trust owned rehabilitation centre will also enable Reachout counselors closely monitor the recovery progress of drug user in the area.
Speaking after inspecting the equipment donated to the organization by United Nation Office on Drug and Crime-UNODC, Reachout Center Trust Executive Director Taib Abdulrahman said that the facility will bring closer drug users to counselors who will get psycho-social support as well as health services.
Taib said that drug users highly needed health services so that they can also protect themselves from contracting disease.
“We are not just treating them or offering counseling services and send them back to their drug dens, our main objective is to get them out of abusing drugs,” he added.
He said that sharing of needle to injecting drug users as well as having unprotected sex may result into contracting HIV/AIDS that is why this facility is very important to our daily activities.
Taib appealed to drug users within the area to seek services at the new Reachout Center Trust clinic on daily basis and always involve outreach workers in case they face any difficulties in accessing the facility.
He singled out Reachout -UNODC partnership as very crucial in ensuring a drug free society at the Coast of Kenya.
