Mombasa maybe the Covid-19 hub

The recent soaring figures released by the Ministry of health projects Mombasa to be the most risky resort city for the Covid-19 disease.

Whenever the results of those tested positive of the disease are released, Mombasa records a half or slightly above the half of the total cases.

However, Mombasa residents are yet to take the disease seriously with some according to health official ignoring the health and safety guidelines provided by the Ministry of health.

In his recent urge to Mombasa residents, Mombasa governor Ali Hassan Joho appealed to his residents to full adhere to the health and safety guidelines provided by the Ministry of health.

“Let’s not be killed by ignorance, we should do everything possible to avert this pandemic, please follow the health guidelines,” he told the residents.

Mombasa county government through a public address system has been creating awareness to Mombasa residents over the disease.


“We are at war and we are prepared for it, ” noted the governor

Among the measures Joho has put in place is closing all bars, wines and spirits and night clubs in the county.

He has together with politician Suleiman Shahbal installed a disinfectant machine at the Likoni ferry channel as well as launched a 700 million shillings relief food to the vulnerable families.

“Some of these measures may sound oppressive but that not the case, Covid-19 is a serious and dangerous pandemic,” revealed the governor.

Joho’s efforts have been recognised by the Health Cabinet secretary Mutahi Kagwe who lauded him for his efforts in containing the spread of Coronavirus.

The Mombasa county Chief has also face lifted the Coast general hospital isolation Centre which has a total of 150 bed capacity for Covid-19 patients.
