Tension in Mombasa over suspected Corona case

Mombasa County department of health has revealed that blood samples of a patient from China have been taken to the Ministry of Health headquarters in Nairobi for further examination.

This is after information circulated through social media indicating that a Corona infected patient has already infected doctors and nurses at the Coast general hospital.

Mombasa County health Chief Officer Doctor Khadija Shikelly though she admitted that a patient from China was indeed rushed at the hospital on Friday, it’s not yet confirmed if she was suffering from Corona Virus.

Shukri Jamal Mahmood who hails from Senti Kumi area in Likoni, Mombasa experienced chest pains and difficulties in breathing.


“The patient is in total Isolation and even her family cannot visit her, only the doctor and nurses assigned to manage the patient are allowed in the private room,” noted Dr. Shikelly.

She assured Mombasa County residents that the County government is doing everything possible to avert Corona outbreak.

Close monitoring

“We have increased surveillance in all the county border points and especially at the Moi International airport in Changamwe which is the main international entrance,” revealed Dr. Shikelly.

Ms Shukri is a student at the Guanzou Southern medical school.

She suffered chest pains since she was still in China barely a week ago.

Locals in Mombasa have been put on high alert over the disease.

However, Shikelly assured them that all urgent health measures have been put in place to prevent an outbreak of Corona disease in the county.

The disease has so far claimed 259 lives in China.
