Mombasa model private hospital ‘The Mombasa hospital’ has been closed down indefinitely following Tuesday night inferno.
The 8.30 pm fire incident gutted down several and important parts of the hospital forcing the administration to conduct an urgent evacuation of the inpatients within the hospital.
Coast regional police Commandant Rashid Yakub said a gas cylinder explosion was the main cause of the fire.
“It started at the kitchen and quickly spread to other parts of the hospital,” he added.
No injuries
According to Mr. Yakub, none of the patients or the staff was injured during the incident.
Firefighters from the Mombasa county government, KPA and Kenya Navy salvaged the situation.
“Patients were urgently evacuated to Agha Khan, Pandya and the Coast general hospital,” he added.
The Kenya Red Cross Society revealed that it assisted at least 20 patients to other health institutions among them the Agha Khan and Pandya.
However, police said that they cannot immediately assess the damage as it was an ongoing process.
