Mombasa governor Ali Hassan Joho has been urged to immediately stop the wrangles that have marred Mombasa county leadership.
The governor has been further tasked to play his vital role of ensuring Mombasa residents benefit from development projects as per the devolved mandate of counties.
Speaking in Mombasa on Wednesday, Haki Africa Rapid Response Officer Mathias Hezron Shipetta said Mombasa County was facing serious development setback following perennial infight between the County assembly members and the County’s executive.
According to Shipetta it is a total shame for such leaders to forget their mandate of serving county residents and indulge in empty politics and infight that has since denied locals development.
He said the situation needed the governor’s intervention for it to be amicably addressed so that locals benefit from development project.
“If the Governor fully understands the cause of the political intrigues he should move in and solve it, we are not interested in their poor, empty and none-beneficial politics,” noted Mr. Shipetta.
He said Mombasa County has become a laughing stock as other counties were prospering in development, the Coastal county lagged behind and is yet to deliberate on tangible development issues that could elevate the county’s development agenda.
“For how long will we be watching the County assembly fighting the executive or the governor demarcating himself from the county assembly? It’s only us who bear the burden of pathetic services,” he said.
Shipetta said locals are yet to understand who is in the right path and who is wrong since both the assembly and the executive are marred by controversy.
On Tuesday, the County assembly led by Jomvu kuu Ward representative Athman Shebe impeached the County Transport executive member Athman Shebe.
He raised various issues among them embezzlement of a whooping 3.7 billion shillings a motion that was quickly adopted by almost all members of the County Assembly.
The MCA’s said that Gender, Youth and Sports County Executive members Munywoki Kyallo and his lands counterpart Edward Nyale are the next in the impeachment list.
Joho has since appeared before the Senate over the Mombasa County wrangles.
