Kaya elders at the Coast are now demanding for a compensation to Kilifi Deputy Governor Gidion Saburi for being wrongly accused.
The elders say Saburi psychologically suffered following false charges leveled against him in early last year.
Saburi was charged for ‘knowingly’ spreading Covid-19 to locals in Kilifi County and in other parts of the region.
According to the government, Mr. Saburi despite having information that he was supposed to go for self quarantine after he came back to the country from China, he did not do so.
However, the Kaya elders led by Kaya Mijikenda coordinator Tsuma Nzai said the government wrongly accused the Deputy Governor.
He said Saburi was unaware that he was infected with Covid-19.
“The false charges have caused our Deputy Governor alot of psychological suffering, he was subjected to discrimination and hatred, he should be compensated, ” said Nzai.
He said the Kaya elders have been pained by the mistreatment meted on Saburi.
“The government lacked any evidence to prove beyond reasonable doubt that the leader violated human or health rights, ” said Nzai.
He asked the government to apologise for violating the DG’s rights.
His sentiments were backed by Kaya Mijikenda chairperson Erastus Kombo Murira who asked the government to conduct thorough investigations before incriminating anyone over spreading Covid-19 allegations.
Saburi was last year arrested and charged for knowingly spreading Covid-19 virus to locals within and outside Kilifi county.
He was also accused for infecting some Kilifi county staff.
However, Saburi was recently acquitted by Mombasa court that cleared the Kilifi Deputy Governor of any wrong doing.
Saburi embraced the court verdict saying he has been living and working in isolation since he was charged for allegedly spreading Covid-19 to Kilifi residents.
