President Uhuru Kenyatta has said that the first ever Kenya Coast guards which was launched on Monday in Mombasa will fully secure the Kenya Coastline.
The President said the special security department will focus on the high seas and the Indian Ocean under the Kenya territory.
The President also ordered all those who grabbed landing sites and affected fishing activities along the Coastline to surrender them before March next year.
He revealed that the newly launched department will enable Coast youth to get jobs.
On his part the Deputy President William Ruto said that the newly launched Coast guards will be mandated to detect unlawful trade conducted along the Indian Ocean.
Speaking at the same function that was held at Liwatoni area in Mombasa, Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i said that the special Coast guard vessel will enhance 24 hour patrol along the Indian Ocean so as to deal with various incidences that could hamper country’s security.
