The Coast region was on Saturday morning thrown into a blackout after the Kenya Power company registered a major fault at the Rabai power sub-station in Kilifi county.
In a statement to newsrooms Saturday morning, the company said Rabai power sub-station experienced a fire breakout early Saturday morning affecting the whole of the Coast region.
“We apologise to our esteemed customers following the major fault recorded at Rabai power sub-station in Kilifi County, our technicians are working to solve the fault,” read part of the statement.
Mombasa, Kwale, Kilifi, Tana River and Lamu were affected by the major fault.
The issue caused losses to various businesses especially those dealing with perishable goods.
The fire was put out at around 2pm, Saturday with technicians working for the better part of the afternoon trying to solve the problem.
