Kenya Red Cross Society volunteer was last night hacked to death at Mbwajumali area in Lamu East.
Lamu County Commissioner Joseph Kanyiri said that Ms Amina Bakari, 30 was accosted a by unknown people at around 11 pm when she was closing her shop and was hacked by the gang.
Neighbors rushed her to a nearby Mbwajumali dispensary but she was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Kanyiri said that it was too early for security agents to establish the motive of the killing but investigations were underway.
“What we know is that the lady was slashed with pangas to death by unknown people and we are investigating the matter,” noted Mr. Kanyiri.
He said Ms. Bakari was a dedicated Kenya Red Cross Society volunteer and would participate in many official and none official functions creating awareness to the youth and entire Lamu community on the negative impact of drug use.
Kenya Red Cross Lamu Branch Coordinator Kauthar Alwy has condemned the incident urging Police officer to pursue those behind the killing.
“We are shocked and yet to understand what the motive behind the killing was, let the police pursue the matter to the end,” he painfully added.
He termed Ms Bakari as a dedicated volunteer to her community.
A village elder Khaldum Vae noted that Mbwajumali was notorious for criminal gangs and most criminal incidents were directly linked to many youths indulging in drug use in the area.
He appealed to Police officer to pursue the matter and arrest all criminal gangs and shut all drug dens in the area.
The body of Ms Bakari was buried at Mbwajumali cemetery on Tuesday afternoon.
