Kirinyaga County assembly members together with their other leaders on Tuesday laid bare the rot within their county government.
The leaders led by the County assembly majority leader David Kinyua Wangui explained to the 11 member senate committee how Governor Anne Waiguru laid hands where she was not supposed to.
“We are here to set a precedent on guarding public funds,” said Kinyua.
The county assembly impeached Waiguru over corruption allegations, misuse of office and expressing self interest in allocation of tenders in the county.
Waiguru is accused of allocating herself 10.6 million shillings as travel allowance which she however never traveled despite pocketing the money.
However, Waiguru has since denied the allegations.
She termed her impeachment as malicious, fictitious and baseless.
Waiguru who was defending herself before 11 member committee nominated to listen to her impeachment case said she was unlawfully impeached.
She accused the Kirinyaga County Assembly members for witch hunting.
“Am falsely accused as all matters raised by the MCA’s cannot be substantiated,” said Waiguru.
He is represented by her husband Kamotho Waiganjo.
The Senate sitting continues on Wednesday before the committee writes its report on Thursday and present the report before the Senate on Friday for deliberations.
