Human rights defenders in Mombasa are calling for urgent actions against killer gang ‘Wakali kwanza’ that has caused locals sleepless nights.
The cry comes after 5 suspected criminals were killed in Junda area, Mishomoroni, Mombasa on Wednesday evening.
Three of the gang members were killed by locals while 2 shot dead by police officers.
Haki Africa Executive Director Hussein Khalid noted that Kisauni security situation was getting out of hand.
According to Khalid, security agents should do everything possible to salvage the situation.
Speaking in Mombasa on Thursday, Mr. Khalid revealed that Kisauni is witnessing series of killings that has caused panic and fear among locals.
“10 victims of the Wednesday marauding youth are still nursing deep panga cuts, this is not the first attack we are witnessing in Kisauni,” revealed Mr. Khalid.
He said the Sub-County has experienced insurgence of criminal gangs that police should contain.

“This has also distabilised the small scale business sector forcing locals to flee the area,” added Khalid.
He however appealed to the police to arrest the suspects and charge them in court.
The human rights activist said by arresting them the suspects will reveal their accomplices within their network.
On Wednesday, ‘Wakali kwanza’ gang members who were from burying their colleague slashed locals with pangas and machetes at Junda area in Mishomoroni sending locals into panic.
Kisauni OCPD Julius Kiragu led a security operation that left 5 suspects dead and 10 people seriously injured.
