Lamu Gov’t blamed for the death of cleric


Political leaders in Lamu have blamed Lamu County government for failing to improve the health sector in Mpeketoni that led to the death of a renowned religious leader Bishop Zabedi Maina Wamaitha.

Lamu county Women representative Ruweida Obbo said the death of Bishop Zabedi of the Full Gospel Christian Church in Lamu county is a total shame to the county government.

Ms Obbo said Bishop Zabedi who also heads the Full Gospel Christian Church in the entire Coast region and plays the role of the Church National treasurer experienced breathing complications a situation that needed urged medical attention.

“Because we do not have Intensive Care Unit- ICU in Mpeketoni and King Fahad hospitals in Lamu Bishop Zabedi had to be rushed to the Coast General Referral Hospital in Mombasa and died on his way in Kilifi,” said Obbo.

She blamed Lamu government for laxity urging the county government to properly play it’s development role in face-lifting the health sector in the County.

According to Ms Obbo, despite the county government be in a position to rectify and uplift the health sector it has done totally nothing.

“We are not playing politics, this is about the health of Lamu county residents, the county government must get to work,” said Obbo.

Her sentiments were backed up by Lamu based human rights activists who reiterated they they will closely monitor and put the Lamu County government into check.

Led by Haki Africa Lamu County Coordinator Yunus Isaack Ahmed, the rights defenders blamed Lamu County government for laxity and completely failing to improve the county health sector.

“We will exert more pressure to the government, this is about Lamu peoples’ health and has nothing to do with politics,” noted Mr Yunus.
