A young man from Sese area, Hongwe Ward in Lamu county has committed suicide after a wrangle with his lover.
The 22 year old man, Henry Kosgei Njuki is said to have depicted confusion and distress and took away his life early Sunday morning.
Locals say Njuki was living with his brother and when the elder brother went out of the house, Njuki took a rop and hanged himself right inside his room.
Youth activists in Lamu have condemned the incident urging youth to open up to their peers for help instead of committing suicide.
Lamu based youth activist Yunus Is’hakia Ahmed noted that for the last three months at least three youth have committed suicide in Lamu County.
Ahmed said that translates to at least one case per month.
“As Lamu youth and other stakeholders, we should not shy away from this social problem but face it head on,” said Mr Yunus.
Yunus added that without urgent approach on the issue, many Lamu youth will kill themselves from issues that can be simply resolved.
“We all need to come up with urgent deliberations and salvage our youth from this worrying trend that has left parents in shock, disbelief and pain,” reiterated the renowned activist.
The other recent recorded suicidal incident happened at Mpeketoni where a young man committed suicide after his lover left him.
Mr Ahmed has once again appealed to the youth in the county to engage their peers and stop killing themselves.
The body of the deceased has been taken to the Mpeketoni hospital morgue.
Police have launched investigations on the incident.
