Lamu Senator Anuwar Loitiptip has embarked on distribution of hand-washing kits in efforts to prevent Coronavirus outbreak in the county.
The kits including big water tanks fitted with taps were distributed in various parts of the county to encourage locals to embrace hygiene.
The 100 water tanks are to be distributed in various areas among them Witu town, Mpeketoni town, Hindi town, Tchundwa, Kiwayu, Mbwajumali among other areas across Lamu county.
According to the Senator, Lamu like other Coastal counties is at high risk of experiencing an outbreak of COVID-19 and all necessary health and safety measures must be put in place to prevent the virus.
Loitiptip has appealed to Lamu dwellers to adhere to health and safety guidelines from the Ministry of health so that they remain safe.
“We should not play a betting game on this matter, COVID-19 is real and we must all practice high personal hygiene,” reiterated Mr. Anuwar.
He said Lamu residents need an intensive awareness campaign so that properly follow the provided health guidelines.
“I conquer with Lamu residents we need more actions and necessary measures in a bid to prevent Coronavirus outbreak,” noted Anuwar
On Friday Lamu residents blamed their Governor Fahim Twaha for not being involved in efforts to prevent Coronavirus outbreak in the county.

They said his counterparts from other Coastal countries have shown dedication and seriousness in preventing the disease while in Lamu there are normal operations and no measures initiated to prevent the disease.
They urged the governor to heed to their concerns and initiate an urgent awareness campaign on the disease and as well shelve them off taxes after a drastic drop in businesses.
“I am complimenting what the county is already doing by distributing hand-washing kits and soaps to encourage hygiene observance among locals,” Mr. Loitiptip stressed out.
Among the basic hygiene standards emphasized by the government in a bid to tame the spread of Coronavirus is by washing hands with clean running water with soap, using sanitisers, embracing social distance among other measures.
